Journals within the field

This page contains a selection of journals within the field of fire safe use of wood, their corresponding editors-in-chief and the main topics covered by the respective journals.

Fire and Materials

Editor-in-Chief:

Stephen J. Grayson

Publication frequency:

Semi-quarterly

Fire and Materials is an international journal for scientific and technological communications directed at the fire properties of materials and the products into which they are made. This covers all aspects of the polymer field and the end uses where polymers find applications; the important developments in the fields of natural products – wood and cellulosics; non-polymeric materials – metals and ceramics; as well as the chemistry and industrial applications of fire retardant chemicals (Link).

Contributions will be particularly welcomed on heat release; properties of combustion products – smoke opacity, toxicity and corrosivity; modeling and testing.

Fire Safety Journal

Editor-in-Chief:

Luke Bisby, Bart Merci

Publication frequency:

Semi-quarterly

Fire Safety Journal is the leading publication dealing with all aspects of fire safety engineering. Its scope is purposefully wide, as it is deemed important to encourage papers from all sources within this multidisciplinary subject, thus providing a forum for its further development as a distinct engineering discipline. This is an essential step towards gaining a status equal to that enjoyed by the other engineering disciplines (Link).

Topics include but are not limited to: Fire chemistry and physics, Fire dynamics (incl. gas explosions), Active fire protection systems (incl. detection and suppression), Passive fire protection methods, People / fire interactions (physical, physiological and psychological), Fire safety management, Assessment and quantification of fire risk (incl. acceptability of risk), Fire investigation, Fire safety design (incl. consumer items, industrial plant, transportation, buildings), Fire safety legislation, Fire safety education.

Fire Technology

Editor-in-Chief:

Guillermo Rein

Publication frequency:

Quarterly

Fire Technology publishes original contributions, both theoretical and empirical, that contribute to the solution of problems in fire safety science and engineering. It is the leading journal in the field, publishing applied research dealing with the full range of actual and potential fire hazards facing humans and the environment. (Link).

It covers the entire domain of fire safety science and engineering problems relevant in industrial, operational, cultural, and environmental applications, including modeling, testing, detection, suppression, human behavior, wildfires, structures and risk analysis.
