The use of combustible insulation materials in buildings is limited due to fire regulations. The aim of the project is to enlarge the experimental background on the fire behavior of combustible insulation materials and to provide design rules for an extended use in buildings.

The objective of the project is the development of advanced and simplified calculation models for the fire design of timber connections.

A 2-storey CLT house was designed and built to resist a compartment fire until full burnout. 47% of the surface was exposed timber. The test house was equipped with thermocouples, heat flux meters, pressure measurement devices and mass measurements. The prediction model for burnout did not fully work. First fire exposed lamella (40 mm) of the CLT delaminated 1h 50min after the start of the fire and the second flash-over occurred. Test house was extinguished 2h 15min after the start of the fire.
